Overview Revelation 9
Updated: Jun 1, 2019
9:1 And the fifth angel sounded (Joel 2:1;1:13-15), and I saw a star fall from heaven (Luke 10:18; Revelation 12:10, 12,13) unto the earth: and to him was given (Rev. 20:1 permission by God to devastate the earth) the key of the bottomless pit. (Proverbs 1:17; Rev. 17:8; Rev. 11:7; Reve. 20:7 prison; Jude 1:6 everlasting chains under darkness)
2And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace (Deuteronomy 4:20, Isaiah 48:10, 1 Peter 4:12,13, Daniel 3); and the sun and the air (Ephesians 2:2) were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. (Genesis 15:12,17)
3And there came out of the smoke locusts (Exodus 10:4-14 8th and 9th plagues of Egypt; Joel 1 & 2) upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
4And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green (Luke 23:31/Jer 17, 7&8/Psalms 1:1-3 the man that trusts in the Lord) thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God (sign of the cross/name of God) in their foreheads.
5And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months (Genesis 7:24, Gen. 8:3 waters of flood prevailed, also time righteous in hiding or protected Luke 1:24): and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion (Jeremiah 8:15-17 time of trouble), when he striketh a man. (Revelation 16:2)
6And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
7And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; (Joel 2:4,5) and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
8And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. (Joel 1:6)
9And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.(Joel 2:4,5)
10And they had tails (Isaiah 9:15 the prophet that teacheth lies; Rev. 12:4; Joel 2:17 when the heathen rule) like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
11And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon (destroying angel), but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon (The Destroyer/ Isaiah 14:17/2 Thessalonians 2:3 Son of Perdition or Destruction).
EGW Bible Commentary Revelation 16:14-16
12One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
13And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God (Revelation 8:3 Christ our High Priest),
14Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. (Revelation 16:12; Jeremiah 51:1,36; Joel 3 Valley of Decision; Revelation 16:14-16 Gathered to the Battle of Armegeddon)
15And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared (Typical of Elijah/Moses Malachi 4/Luke 1:17/Like 1:76-79; Typical of Kings of the East Revelation 16:12/Jeremiah 51:11) for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. (2 Thessalonians 2:8-12 – those deceived)
16And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand:(Heb. 12:22; Jude 1:14 innumerable myriads; Psalms 68:17; Rev. 19:14) and I heard the number of them.
17And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
18By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. (Revelation 11:5; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12)
19For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. (Exodus 4:2-4,17 the Rod to do signs)
EGW Bible commentary Revelation 16:14-17
20And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues (Reminder of Moses) yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. (Revelation 16:11 repented not)
