Mary Magdalene SCENE 3
Updated: Nov 6, 2022
ACT: Martha is home cleaning. Mary hurries to tell her Jesus and His disciples are on their way to Bethany. She asks Martha if they can stay at their house.
Mary raced ahead of the others so she could tell Martha and Lazarus that Jesus was coming to Bethany. She hoped they would agree to allow Him and His disciples to stay at their house. As soon as she found Martha and told her the news, Martha went into action! They would need food for twelve men plus Jesus, and there would be others who might want to come to hear Him. There were groceries to buy, and meals to prepare, and where would the men sleep?
ACT: Martha and Mary hurry to prepare for her guests.
ACT: Jesus and the disciples arrive. Mary shows Jesus to a seat and brings water to wash His dusty feet. His disciples sit at His feet. Jesus starts to talk to them. Mary forgets to go back to help Martha and sits down to hear Jesus too.
Mary helped as much as she could, but when Jesus came through that door, she showed Him where to sit down and brought water to wash His dusty feet. Almost immediately Jesus began to speak to the people that had gathered around. Mary, lost in His words, never moved from His feet. How could she when Jesus was talking? His words were life to her! His words made her strong! His words helped her through every single day of her life!
ACT: Martha working hard looks in and sees Mary sitting at Jesus’ feet. She is upset and with hands on hips goes to express her frustration to Jesus.
Poor Martha. There was so much work to do! It really was overwhelming! She finally could take it no longer. Coming to Jesus she said, “Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.”
ACT: Mary embarrassed, starts to get up to help. But Jesus motions her to stay seated at His feet and talks to Martha.
Oh Mary felt embarrassed. Of course she should be helping Martha. She started to get up.
But Jesus motioned for Mary to stay at His feet. He had something more to say,
"Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
ACT: Martha sits a Jesus feet too.
