DANIEL 8:5C HE-GOAT PRINCE OF THIS WORLD

Updated: Dec 13, 2022

CHAPTER 5 C

Just as Alexander the Great conquered the Medes and the Persians to become the ruling prince of the world, so there is a battle between Christ the Ram of God and Satan the He-goat for the battle of rulership over this world.

Daniel 8:5 And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

Daniel 8:21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia.....

Scripture is clear in Daniel 8:21 that the kingdom of Greece was to follow that of the Medes and the Persians and in Daniel 8:20 that there would be “the prince of Grecia.” We are introduced to “the” king of Greece not plural kings of Greece as in the case of the kings of the Medes and Persians. Historically this is so. And literally the prince who eventually conquered the Medes and Persians and ruled the world would be Alexander the Great. For a history of his life see: https://www.history.com/topics/ancient-history/alexander-the-great

For Bible prophecy concerning him see the following:

Daniel 10:20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.

Daniel 11:2 And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.

3 And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.

THINKING SPIRITUALLY:

The Ram spiritually represented the Lamb of God which is Jesus or who was the King of the Jews. In the same way the king of Grecia would spiritually be king of the Gentile world. See Chapter 5B regarding the spiritual meaning of the Greeks in the Bible being the Gentile world. Spiritually, the question could be asked who is king of the Gentile world or the world that does not know God? The answer is Satan. Christ even calls him the Prince of this World.

John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

.

John 14: 30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

John 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

And oddly enough he has a name in Hebrew and Greek.

Revelation 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-9/

I think as we study this farther you will understand the symbolism connection between Satan and the rough goat even more. But it is enough to know that historically, in regards to this prophecy’s literal fulfilment, the He-goat is Alexander the Great. However, when we look at the He-goat spiritually, as he who has styled himself the prince of this world at war against Christ, we are looking at Satan. Going forward we will study Alexander and his methods of war against the Medes and the Persians to better understand Satan and his methods in his war against Christ.
