DANIEL 8:26A THE EVENING AND THE MORNING PART I

Updated: Dec 26, 2022

CHAPTER 26 A

During this discourse, we will look at the first phrase of Daniel 8:26 and will discover what the Evening and the Morning of Daniel 8:26 mean. We will see that regarding the Sanctuary message of Daniel 8, the Evening and the Morning is Christ’s redemptive work of perfect trust in His Father’s provisional Will.

Daniel 8:26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-8/

Please note that two different words were translated from Hebrew as “vision” in Daniel 8:26. But these two different Hebrew words refer to two different things. You can review that in our Bible Study discussion regarding Daniel 8:15 in which both these different words for vision are first used together. Below I have shared from the Strong’s Concordance the different Hebrew words translated vision being numbered H4758 and H2377.

And the vision H4758 of the evening H6153 and the morning H1242 which was told H559 is true: H571 wherefore shut thou up H5640 the vision; H2377 for it shall be for many H7227 days. H3117

The first Hebrew word for vision is mareh H4758 meaning appearance.

מַרְאֶה marʼeh, mar-eh'; from H7200; a view (the act of seeing); also an appearance (the thing seen), whether (real) a shape (especially if handsome, comeliness; often plural the looks), or (mental) a vision:—× apparently, appearance(-reth), × as soon as beautiful(-ly), countenance, fair, favoured, form, goodly, to look (up) on (to), look(-eth), pattern, to see, seem, sight, visage, vision. https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/Lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=H4758&t=KJV

For the sake of simplicity we will use the translation, “appearance”. We saw this first in Daniel 8:15 regarding the “appearance of the Mighty man” who we found out was Michael or Christ.

Daniel 8:15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

The second Hebrew word used for vision in Daniel 8:26 is chazown H2377 meaning revelation.

חָזוֹן châzôwn, khaw-zone'; from H2372; a sight (mentally), i.e. a dream, revelation, or oracle:—vision.https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/Lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=H2377&t=KJV

Daniel 8:15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision (h2377), and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

Reviewing Daniel 8:15 we found that as an answer to the meaning of the 2300-day prophecy (vision H2377) of Daniel 8:1-14, Daniel was given the appearance of a Mighty Man (vision 4758). Our study concluded that the Mighty Man was the Captain of the Lord’s Host, The Lord of Lords, Michael the Archangel, and Messiah the Christ, the Great Prince of God’s People. Our study showed us that His purpose is to be the Captain of our lives, to fight our battles with sin for us and to resurrect us in the last day. But Daniel 8:26 brings out a new character quality regarding the Mighty Man Appearance that is very important for our salvation. It is His enduring, continual, daily provision! Let us look at it in the context of Daniel 8.

In review, the context of Daniel 8 has several features. The setting is the battle between the mighty powers of good and evil in this world. The key players are Christ and His people through the ages from the time of Medo-Persia rule forward as well as Satan and his agents during the same prophetic time. The object of focus is the typical earthly sanctuary rebuilt by the Israelites during the time of the Medes and Persians and the antitypical true sanctuary following the cross which is composed of Christ and His people. The sanctuary is also a blueprint of the government or kingdom of God and specifically the plan of salvation as seen in its symbolism. The Daniel 8 picture of the great controversy between Christ and Satan is also seen in the sacrificial symbolism of the Day of Atonement Ram/Lamb of God (Christ) which taketh away the sin of the world as well as the he-goat/scapegoat (Satan). The key to understanding all of this is to understand the work of the Mighty Man, Jesus Christ, Who came to restore our communion/relationship with God. We call this His atonement. Finally, regarding Daniel 8:26 how does this “the evening and the morning” fit into the above?

Daniel 8:26And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-8/

The words “the evening and the morning” used in this order take us right back to creation week. We must look at the original government or order of God on this earth to understand it.

Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Genesis-Chapter-1/

The words evening and morning simply denoted a day. It started in the evening and continued in the morning. At even it all started again. The phrase “and the evening and the morning were” is repeated for the first six days of the creation account in Genesis 1.

There were six wonderful days of Creator provision. Light, firmament, land with food, the sun and moon and stars, living creatures of the water and sky, and finally living creatures of the land including man. Did you ever stop to think that spiritually, Christ is the Light of the World; He is the Everlasting Spirit or Breath; He is the Bread of Life; He is the Sun of Righteousness, the Morning Star, He is the Dove of Peace and the Flying Eagle; He made Himself one of the fish in this great sea of humanity. He is the the Lamb of God, the Lion of Judah; He is God in human flesh! He is the great Provision of Heaven.

The next time we see the evening and morning is during the wilderness wandering of Israel. Here we begin to understand the evening and the morning as the provision of God and fulfilled spiritually in Christ Himself! He is the Manna.

Exodus 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. 12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.

Matthew 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Matthew-Chapter-26/

The next time we are introduced to the evening and the morning is the provision of sanctuary. Here the lesson is expounded that the evening and the morning through the symbols is a continual, always, abiding, dwelling, remaining, daily provision of Christ Himself. Below I have shared both the sanctuary symbolic ordinances as well as the fulfilment of those ordinances in Christ.

Exodus 29:36 And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin offering for atonement: and thou shalt cleanse the altar, when thou hast made an atonement for it, and thou shalt anoint it, to sanctify it. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Exodus-Chapter-29/

Exodus 25:30 And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Exodus-Chapter-25/

Numbers 4:7 And upon the table of shewbread they shall spread a cloth of blue, and put thereon the dishes, and the spoons, and the bowls, and covers to cover withal: and the continual bread shall be thereon: https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Numbers-Chapter-4/

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/1-Peter-Chapter-1/

Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Matthew-Chapter-6/

Malachi 1:11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Malachi-Chapter-1/#11

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Ephesians-Chapter-5/

Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Jeremiah-Chapter-31/

Hebrews 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

Did you noticed that in each of the above lesson books (that of creation week, that of manna, that of the sanctuary) the provision is provided continually, evening and morning, daily, forever, endlessly, perpetually, remaining, abiding. Christ is literally currently, the Evening and Morning or Daily Provision. He is our Daily Bread. He is our Continual ever burning Light. He is our Incense of Love everlasting. He is our Continual Burnt Offering offered once forever. He is our Continual Sin Offering offered once forever. He is our High Priest who ever liveth to make intercession for us. He is our Daily, Evening and the Morning provision!

You should be asking yourself this question by now, for in each of the examples of the Evening and the Morning there follows attached the Sabbath. In every case above (creation, manna, the gift of His Son) God set aside a day just to remember it all!

And so the vision (H4758) of the Evening and the Morning is all about the appearance of the Continual Provision to us of our Mighty Man, Our Creator and Redeemer!

You would think a day of rest for God meant the provision would be rested also. But no, the provisions given the first 6 days never stopped but were rather sustained by God in the miracle Holy Day memorial of an Evening and Morning of Rest! In the example of the work of creation, God rested from His work of creating, however the light, air, food, water, day and night, and life never ceased in provision. In the example of the manna, the people rested from their work of gathering and preparing manna and by obedience in rest showed their trust in God regarding His continual provision or sustenance of the manna during the Sabbath. In the work of salvation, Christ after He finished fulfilling the gift of His life for us rested His very breath in God’s hands waiting resurrection morning for His Father to call Him back to life.

Every week, when we partake of the Sabbath or Seventh Day Rest we are partaking in the commemoration of His creative works, His redemptive works and daily sustenance. Keeping the Sabbath or Seventh Day Rest is a symbol of faith or trust and obedience in His sustenance or continual provision not just for this life but for life evening and morning for eternity. Thank you, Father in Heaven, for being God, for creating, redeeming, and sustaining your children!

Christ is the greatest example of this perfect Rest or trust in God. That is why it is called His Rest or the Lord’s Day.

Matthew 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

And in the heart of the Will or Law of God in the 4th commandment is the Day of the Lord or Sabbath Rest.

In summary, the Evening and the Morning as it relates to Daniel 8 regarding the sanctuary is the Provisional Redemptive Work of Christ which was finished on the cross. As stated previously, it is the “appearance of the Mighty Man” vision. “The vision of the Evening and the Morning which was told is true”…. Jesus has come to save us from our sins, to be our substitute and surety. He is our consecrated High Priest. We can go to Him in faith, repent, and know that He will intercede for us always, continually, forever, without end! We can put our faith in Him, Mighty Redeemer, and Friend!

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/John-Chapter-6/

Friends, it is very important we understand this because as always Satan will fight against it. He specifically fights against it when he through the Lamb-like beast of Revelation 13 convinces the world to worship the image of the beast of Revelation 13. Satan, who has always wanted to be God, wants to be worshipped as God is worshipped.

Worship of this image is not based on perfect trust in the provision of God, but rather on fear of loss of life or belief in a lie. This form of worship takes away the continual provision of God. Remember that God sends the rain on the just and the unjust. This false system of worship will be set up by a false god.
