DANIEL 8:19B AT THE TIME APPOINTED THE END SHALL BE -BABYLON IS FALLEN, IS FALLEN
Updated: Dec 18, 2022
CHAPTER 19 B
The appointed time of Daniel 8:19 is the end of the 2300-day vision and the beginning of “the time of the end.” Just before this happens the Bible predicts that Babylon will fall in its appointed time. In this chapter we will discuss the fall of spiritual Babylon just before the 2300-day prophecy is fulfilled and at the very close of time.
Daniel 8:19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-8/
The Hebrew word for “end” in Daniel 8:19 is not the same one used in the first part of the verse. It could be better worded, “after the time appointed shall be the end.”

The phrase “the time of the end” using the Hebrew words above is used six general times as outlined below in the book of Daniel. In the four occurrences below the verses in Daniel tell us that “the time of “the end” happens at an “appointed time.” In other words, “the time of the end” happens at a definite time.
Daniel 11:35 And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.

The Hebrew word for appointed means a fixed time or a set time.

30 For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-11/
Looking in scripture we can find a lot of appointed or fixed or set times. Just a few examples would be the following:
The weekly seventh day was set aside for all men by God as the Sabbath or Lord’s Day or memorial of creation, a holy day of rest and corporate worship. (See Genesis 2:2-3; Exodus 20:8-11; Mark 2:28; Isaiah 56:6-7)
The yearly feast days were set aside by God for the Hebrews to worship and humble themselves corporately to keep in mind the miracles God had wrought for them and the plan of redemption. (See Leviticus 23; Exodus 23)
Prophetic times were appointed to help His people to prepare for judgments and were closely associated with the times or methods of deliverance.
Genesis 6:3 – 120 years of probation before the flood
Genesis 15:13 – 400 years of affliction for Israel in Egypt
Genesis 41 – Seven years of plenty and seven years of famine
The book of Daniel is full of these prophetic times including the following:
Daniel 7:12 – lives prolonged a season and a time
Daniel 7:25 – saints given into the hand of the Little horn for times, time and dividing of time
Daniel 8:14 – after 2300 days the sanctuary to be cleansed
Daniel 9:2 – Seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem
Daniel 9:24-27 – Seventy-week prophecy concerning the vision of the appearance of the Mighty Man
Daniel 12:7 – Time, times and and half of time
Daniel 12:11 – A thousand two hundred and ninety days
Daniel 12:12 – A thousand three hundred and five and thirty days
For the purposes of discovering that the visions of Daniel 8 have an additional closing of time fulfilment, I want to study the prophetic “appointed time” that Daniel was then experiencing. One reason Daniel was studying the fulfilment of the seventy-year prophecy in Daniel 9 was because he did not understand what God meant by “the appointed time” in Daniel 8. Daniel, like us most likely thought 2300 days meant 2300 days rather than years. Daniel may have been looking for a connection between the seventy-year prophecy and the Daniel 8 vision he had recently experienced but did not understand.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Jeremiah-Chapter-29/
The purpose of the seventy-year prophecy was to give the captives at Babylon hope or an expectation for when their captivity would end.
Daniel was still living and searching for hope regarding the seventy-year appointed time and end of his captivity and the deliverance of his people.
In the same way, at the time of the fulfilling of the 1260-year prophecies and the 2300-year prophecies, those living then would be looking at the prophecies and hoping for the second coming of Christ.
Daniel had understanding regarding the end of the seventy-year prophecy from Jeremiah 29 but received more understanding about the first coming of Christ while he humbled himself and prayed his prayer of Daniel 9. In the same way God’s people in the early 19th century would have understanding regarding the 1260-year and 2300-year prophecies but with humility of spirit and prayer would receive more knowledge and understanding regarding the messages of God to precede the second coming of Christ.
Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-12/
Daniel 12:5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
The following other two verses mentioning “the time of the end” in the book of Daniel just tell us events that will occur after “the time of the end” commences or within “the time of the end.” The content of these verses tell us that “the time of the end” goes on for an indefinite time and prophetic events happen during “the time of the end.”
Daniel 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-11/
Daniel 8:17 So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision (H2377).
Another way to understand the words “at the time of the end shall be the vision” in Daniel 8:17 could be that the whole 2300-day vision will be repeated at the time of the end. To begin understanding this concept we will look at what the Bible says about a repeat performance of the Daniel 8 vision at the time of the end during the remaining chapters of this book.
For now, let’s begin by looking at what the Bible says about a closing time repeat of performance of the commencement of the Daniel 8 vision.
Just as Daniel 8 begins within a framework for the time the vision was given so “the time of the end” or “appointed time” or fulfilling of the 1260-day prophecies give us a framework for the time just before this vision repeats itself. What I am saying is that at the commencement of “the time of the end” or “the appointed time” the events of the vision of Daniel 8 are being both completed and on the verge of repetition.
When Daniel received the vision of Daniel 8, world kingdoms were about to switch hands. The reigning world kingdom of Babylon was about to be deposed and a new world kingdom called the Medes and Persians was about to reign. The Jews were still captives of Babylon. Other prophecies in scripture including Jeremiah 29:10 regarding the 70-year prophecy were about to be fulfilled regarding God’s people.
In the same way at “the time of the end” this scenario would be repeated. Spiritual Babylon was about to fall. The papacy would be deposed and a new nation called the United States of America would become the world’s superpower. Christians were still captives in their thinking regarding the fallacies the papacy had taught and forced for 1260 years. The 2300-day prophecy was about to be fulfilled regarding the cleansing of the sanctuary or the temple of the mind.
The Bible tells us no one would understand this prophecy until the time appointed which we have discovered in chapter 17 started in the year 1843-1844.
To give context to the commencement of the prophetic fulfillment of Daniel 8 and its repeat performance at “the time of the end” read below the story of the fall of Babylon to the Medes and the Persians from Daniel 5.
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans (Babylon) slain.
31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

This story is significant because the vision of Daniel 8 does not begin its fulfilment until the fall of Babylon takes place. Daniel 5 is the fall of literal Babylon. History teaches us about prophecy. An example is the literal application of the following words spoken of spiritual Babylon, as foretold in Revelation 14:8, long after the scenes of Daniel 5 took place.
Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-14/
In Daniel’s day, king Belshazzar, as ruler of the world, literally invited all nations to drink wine from the sacred golden cups from the temple of God. Belshazzar showed blatant disregard for God and the sacred things of God even though he had Nebuchadnezzar’s testimony regarding his fall and re-instatement to his throne.
https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-4/
https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-5/
In the same way Babylon fell twice during the literal reign of Babylon, first with Nebuchadnezzar’s fall and then with Belshazzar’s fall, so at the close of time prophetically, there are two falls for spiritual Babylon. The first falling away of the man of sin would be revealed so the world could recognize who the “man of sin” is. He would be revealed “in his time” or at his “appointed time.” We know this to be the revelation of the papacy as being “the man of sin.” His time was the 1260-year papal reign after which he was deposed from his throne in 1798. The second fall of spiritual Babylon would occur at the close of time when all the kings of the world must decide for themselves whether they will regard the things of God as sacred or if they will regard the sacred things of God as common and drink the wine of spiritual Babylon.
2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-18/
History teaches us about prophecy. The prophecy, in Revelation 14:8, written almost 600 years after Babylon fell to the Medes and Persians points us to study the history of the fall of ancient Babylon to learn what will happen in the future.
Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-14/
In the future, spiritual Babylon, the papacy, represented by a fornicating woman in Bible prophecy, would fall when she would convince the kings of the world to drink the wine of her abominable disregard for God and the sacred things of God and to drink the blood of Christians like wine by persecuting the followers of the true God.
https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-17/
Scripture predicts a repeat performance of spiritual Babylon’s fall. Not just at her appointed time which began in 1798 but also at the very close of time. Because the Bible says, Babylon is fallen, is fallen. There are two falls. One fall occurs at the onset of the time appointed and the other occurs at the very close of time with the final indignation. There are two messages regarding this fall. One message of Babylon’s fall occurs and goes with the first angel’s message of Revelation 14 and the other occurs and goes with the third angel’s message of Revelation 14 at the very close of time.

CHAPTER SUMMARY
The appointed time of Daniel 8:19 is the end of the 2300-day vision and the beginning of “the time of the end.” Just before the appointed time of Daniel 8:19 the Bible predicts that Babylon will fall in its appointed time. In this chapter we discussed the fall of spiritual Babylon just before the 2300-day prophecy was fulfilled and at the very close of time.
We saw from scripture that “the time of “the end” happens at an “appointed time or in other words a definite time. Looking in scripture we can find a lot of appointed or fixed or set times including the weekly Sabbath, the yearly feasts of the Jews, and prophetic times. We found that the book of Daniel is full of these prophetic times and for the purposes of discovering that the visions of Daniel 8 have an additional closing of time fulfilment we studied the prophetic seventy-year prophecy or “appointed time” that Daniel was then experiencing. The purpose of the seventy-year appointed time in prophecy was to give the captives at Babylon hope or an expectation for when their captivity would end.
We compared Daniels understanding regarding the end of the seventy-year prophecy and reception of more understanding about the first coming of Christ while he humbled himself and prayed to the experience of God’s people in the early 19th century. We that like Daniel they had some understanding regarding the 1260-year and 2300-year prophecies but with humility of spirit and prayer and Bible study they would receive more knowledge and understanding after the time of the end commenced regarding the messages of God to precede the second coming of Christ.
Another way to understand the words “at the time of the end shall be the vision” in Daniel 8:17 could be that the whole 2300-day vision will be repeated at the time of the end. To begin understanding this concept we looked at a closing time repeat of performance of the commencement of the Daniel 8 vision.
With the commencement of “the time of the end” or “the appointed time” of the 2300-day vision, the events of the vision of Daniel 8 are being both completed and on the verge of repetition.
To give context to the commencement of the prophetic fulfillment of Daniel 8 and its repeat performance at “the time of the end” we read the story of the fall of Babylon to the Medes and the Persians from Daniel 5. This story is significant to the Daniel 8 vision because the 2300 day vision of Daniel does not begin until the fall of Babylon takes place. Daniel 5 is the fall of literal Babylon. History teaches us about prophecy. An example is the literal application of the words spoken of spiritual Babylon, as foretold in Revelation 14:8, long after the scenes of Daniel 5 took place.
There were two falls of Babylon in Daniel’s day. King Belshazzar, as ruler of the world, literally invited all nations to drink wine from the sacred golden cups from the temple of God. Belshazzar showed blatant disregard for God and the sacred things of God even though he had Nebuchadnezzar’s testimony regarding his fall and re-instatement to his throne. The same night he fell from his throne.
In the same way Babylon fell twice during the literal reign of Babylon, first with Nebuchadnezzar’s fall and then with Belshazzar’s fall, so at the close of time prophetically, there are two falls for spiritual Babylon. The Bible tells us that the first falling away of the man of sin would be revealed so the world could recognize who the “man of sin” is. The second fall of spiritual Babylon would occur at the close of time when all the kings of the world must decide for themselves whether they will regard the things of God as sacred or if they will regard the sacred things of God as common and drink the wine of spiritual Babylon. In this way Scripture predicts a repeat performance of spiritual Babylon’s fall at her appointed time which began in 1798 but also at the very close of time. The Bible says, Babylon is fallen, is fallen. There are two messages regarding this fall. One message of Babylon’s fall occurs and goes with the first angel’s message of Revelation 14 and the other occurs and goes with the third angel’s message of Revelation 14 at the very close of time. Both messages are given after the appointed time during “the time of the end.”
Friends, the message of Babylon’s fall is the message that went out when the time of the end began. This message has been preached now for 180 years. Now we are seeing a repeat performance of this Daniel 8 prophecy.
