DANIEL 8:14C 2300 DAYS

Updated: Dec 17, 2022

Time does not matter to the person who does not expect something to happen at a certain time. When someone thinks of a set time, they are thinking of an event in relation to the time. This sets an expectation. We say things like, “What time is it?” because when comes the set time, we want to be ready for the event. God did not give the 2300-day prophecy for us to ignore the event. He wanted us to know what was going to happen so we could be ready.

In today’s world we do not hear a lot about this prophecy in relation to time. But there was a time in our world when many Christians were studying about the 2300- day prophecy. Led by William Miller, it was a movement which promoted the second coming of the Lord at the end of 2300 years using the “day for a year” principle of prophetic interpretation. They started with the last decree of Artexerxes the Persian King which gave the Israelites freedom to govern themselves under God and understood the prophecy of Daniel 8 to say that the 2300 years would end near 1844. Combining that with the event discussed in the time prophecy or the “cleansing of the sanctuary” as it was studied in relation to the Day of Atonement of Leviticus 16, it was thought Jesus would come on the Day of Atonement or Jewish feast day for the Cleansing of the Sanctuary (believed to be this earth) in the year 1844. The Advent movement people, in sincerity, sold all their possessions to get the message out to the world about the coming of Jesus. And they prepared themselves to be ready for His coming spiritually. But sad to say, Jesus did not come at the end of 2300 years. This was a great disappointment to the Advent people.

Why did God allow this to happen? What was significant about the 2300-day prophecy? In review of the historical fulfillment of Daniel 8, we have seen that the devil had been busy for 1260 years working through the “man of sin” to destroy faith in God, to destroy true worship and a true knowledge of God and His ways, to destroy God’s church and to set up in God’s name a false system of worship. We know God allowed this set of events to reveal the “man of sin” and his true character to humanity. We know God was ready, when this was over, to cleanse (justify) His sanctuary or church.

With freedom of worship, especially within the new world or the United States of America, would come the ability to study scripture, to discover a true knowledge of God again. The Advent movement had its roots within the boundaries of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA a newly established republic and nation. And though, Christians thought Jesus was coming, they missed the point of the 1844 message. What really happened on the Day of Atonement or Cleansing service of the Sanctuary, according to Bible passages is very personal and key to the next phase or plan of heaven. But to understand we must go with Christ to the throne of God on this, His antitypical Day of Atonement.

First, the Bible tells us that ever since Christ ascended to heaven and because of Jesus’ blood and righteousness, we should have confidence to approach the mercy seat or the throne of God. (Hebrews 10). This is a Day of Atonement setting as the High Priest never did this but once a year on the Day of Atonement. Kneeling there with contrite heart (Revelation 8) we can and should seek the kingdom of God as Christ our High Priest presents His merits in our place and gives us of His grace. There, seeing Jesus, we will sense our great need of mercy and cleansing and will not be denied. And He, taking the living coal of fire from off the alter (the jealous love He has for us), will touch our lips and cleanse our hearts and minds. Under the Holy Spirit’s influence of the pure, sweet, heaven sent love of Christ, our life and character and words would represent truth. We could say as Isaiah did, “Here am I, send me.” (Isaiah 6). And that is just the point. Send me where, to do what? And suddenly, the events on the Day of Atonement becomes a missionary experience.

There is a whole world out there that does not know Christ. They have been duped by Satan and even experienced a negative picture of Christianity portrayed by a mother false church. Some are professed believers in Christ. Some are what the Bible terms as Gentiles who have had no real opportunity to know God. After the 2300-day prophecy was fulfilled, God had a whole world to tell regarding the Day of Atonement or Reconciliation message. But the message itself would be the enabling of the spreading of that message. The message itself would prepare the hearts of its hearers if they answered its call.

Looking carefully at Daniel 8 we find TIME to be the question and the answer.

For our purposes, and to find out more about the time aspects of this prophecy I will shorten the question to this.

How long …. To give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden underfoot?

Those words “trodden underfoot” also belong to another time prophecy in the Bible. One that connects Christians directly to their purpose or commission to reach the whole world for Jesus.

Luke 11:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

In the verse above, Christ was prophetically talking about literal Jerusalem at a near date in the future as well as spiritual Jerusalem at a more future date.

Remember spiritual Jerusalem is the church everyone belongs to if they have accepted Christ as their Savior.

Another prophecy given regarding the “times of the Gentiles” seen above in Luke 11:24 is found in Revelation 11:2.

Revelation 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Here in these two verses of Luke 11 and Revelation 11 we find the Gentile world involved with the apostate church in trampling underfoot Jerusalem or God’s church for 42 months or 1260 days being 1260 years using the prophetic day for a year principle. Luke 11:24 tells us this is called the “times of the Gentiles.” The “times of the Gentiles” is the same as the reign of the Little Horn power of Daniel 8:9-12; and the Little Horn power of Daniel 7:25 referred to as “a time, times and dividing of times” . One “time” would equal one year. A time, times and dividing of time would be 3 ½ years or again 1260 days. This is the time period the Leopard-like beast power of Revelation 13:4 would reign. Only in Revelation 13, the words “forty-two months” are used to describe the three and a half years or 1260-day period. During this prophetic period the woman or God’s church is also said to be nourished by God in the wilderness.

You may say, but that is not 2300 days. And that is right. But these verses are also significant in that they have links to the 2300-day prophecy with the words in Daniel 8:13-14.

After the 1260-year prophecies are fulfilled, but in connection to the Cleansing of the Sanctuary message, God also gives an urgency to His own people to reach the “Gentile” world with the message of salvation. To understand we must understand the Bible when it speaks of the “Times of the Gentiles”.

Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Friends, I do believe this passage applies both to literal Israel and spiritual Israel. For our purposes, let us apply it to spiritual Israel (meaning spiritually, the Jew of the inward heart or Christian church – Romans 2:28-29)

First, in Romans 11:25 when the fullness of the Gentiles comes in, we find there is a revealing or a doing away of blindness on the part of Israel. The 1260 years revealed a couple things to spiritual Israel: First, the “Man of Sin” or “Leopard-like beast” was revealed to the church of God. 2 Thessalonians 2; Revelation 13. Now, after the 1260 years the church would understand who the “Man of Sin” was. But secondly, with the Protestant Reformation and the Cleansing of the Sanctuary message they would also understand something else they were blind about, the role of Christ as their High Priest at the throne of God. Romans 11:26 speaking of spiritual Israel would, like Israel of old, be blinded or become corrupt trying to establish their own righteousness by works (Romans 10:3). They needed to know about the righteousness of Christ to save them (2 Corinthians 3). Then they could tell the world about the Gospel of Christ even more powerfully as well as warn the world of the presence and character of the “Man of Sin”.

Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Spiritual Israel would lose their blindness at the revelation of the “Man of Sin” or Leopard-like beast of Revelation 13 or what is the “Little Horn power” of Daniel 8.

Remember that for 1260 long years (538-1798 AD) the Leopard-like beast or Little Horn power had the freedom to use religion to build an empire in which it looked like God was worshipped but closer inspection revealed the characteristics of force, lies, and jealousy where Satan demanded worship in the guise of man. Think about it. Popery took the place of Christ our High Priest. Priests in the garb of men took the place of God’s people who are called priests by God Himself (1 Peter 2:9). Petitions ascended to heaven with the scent of earthly candles and the pollution of money to buy answers. Salvation by works took the place of salvation by faith. Tradition rather than the Commandment of God was present in the form of nunnery, celibacy, rites and rituals. Persecution was present in the form of fear to go against the church at the cost of one’s life. The church continued to use its pomp and external beauty to impress men rather than the inner humility Christ exuded.

This made an impression on the hearts of men, even those who worshipped God (Israel). Just like when the Israelites were freed from Egyptian bondage and in the wilderness had to learn the true worship of God once again, so the same with the world, once Babylon (the apostate system) was fallen or the great falling away had occurred and the world was free from its power. The sanctuary cleansing is a cleansing of the heart and mind from the fornication and wine of a polluted idolatrous system of worship and thought (Isaiah 28:1,3).

Secondly, because the apostate church would be given opportunity to rule for so long, God’s church would have to re-awaken to the role of Christ as their High Priest or His righteousness.

Not only did this apply to the Jews right after the cross. This also happened with the great Reformation. Martin Luther, John Huss and Jerome, Zwingli, and many other reformers began to understand righteousness by faith rather than works. They spoke against the papal apostate church and her works-oriented teachings. But with the Advent Movement and the message of the Cleansing of the Sanctuary, a new understanding of Christ as High Priest came to emphasize the need of Christ’s righteousness to cover or expiate the sin sick soul.

Jesus our true High Priest has been doing the atoning work since the day He ascended to heaven. But understood correctly, as of the end of the 2300 days, a special cleansing of the temple hearts of men would take place that would WORK powerfully in the hearts of God’s people to incline them to AGAIN reach the Gentile world with the gospel.

It would be like this experience from this passage from Isaiah 6. Isaiah is having a Day of Atonement experience at the throne of God. He sees Christ high and lifted up. (And I, if I be lifted up will draw all men unto me.) Looking at Christ on the cross, He feels his unworthiness. He is a sinful man in need of cleansing. Look at the Day of Atonement language here. A coal from the alter is placed upon His lips. He is cleansed from His unrighteousness. And He is ready to go to the world with the right spirit and with the Gospel message.

In connection to this time message regarding the times of the Gentiles there is also a message regarding the measuring of God’s church? And there are TIME applications.

This end time prophecy in Revelation 11 is significant because it uses Day of Atonement language. The other place these three temple items of the temple of God, the altar, and them that worship there -in, are mentioned is on the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16. As the rule is, we must use the Bible to interpret itself. Remember, Christ gives us the significance of any prophecy, for the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ (Revelation 19:10).

Leviticus 16:20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:

The word measure in Revelation 11:1 above is also a term of judgment.

μετρέω metréō, met-reh'-o; from G3358; to measure (i.e. ascertain in size by a fixed standard); by implication, to admeasure (i.e. allot by rule):—figuratively, to estimate:—measure, mete.

The word is used like this in the New Testament.

Matthew 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

John is told to measure or judge the temple of God, the altar, and the worshippers.

What is John measuring? The church or temple, the altar, and the worshippers. God starts with the church as a whole entity. He then moves to the altar or place of prayer, real communicators with God. He then moves to the individual worshipping in the church. What is John measuring about each of these? Read the texts below to understand that we are each measured by the perfection of Christ and the measure of our experience or learning from history.

There are two rules by which we are being measured. Are we the measure of Christ in character? And what have we have learned from our experience and history. Will we accept or reject Christ. Have we murdered or persecuted Him in the form of His messengers?

God starts this process with His church because by faith in Jesus His church comes with Him to the throne of God or mercy seat before that final judgment day.

1 Timothy 5:24 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.

When we go by faith in the Righteousness of Christ with Him to the mercy seat, there we see the judgement seat of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

The mercy seat is also the place of law. For inside the ark or underneath the mercy seat are the tables of stone containing the law of God or God’s Ten Commandments. These ten words are also a transcript of the character of God or Christ. It is by the fulness of His character or glory we are measured. And we all fall short before the judgment seat of Christ.

But it is also at the throne of God with Jesus our High Priest, we see the perfect Lamb of God, and experience blood of sprinkling on our heart and mind. There by beholding Christ, we are cleansed or changed into the image of Christ.

12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

This sprinkling or cleansing of the conscience or throne room of our body temple is a special privilege of the church of God or what the Bible terms as Jerusalem.

This sprinkling is what happened on the typical Day of Atonement. Now in fulfilment Christ has given His atoning cleansing blood for you, His church. You are covered by His righteousness.

The church has been measured in all ages. God says to each of the seven churches in Revelation 2&3, “I know thy works….” And hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. There is a special message in every age for the church. And each message applies in every age to the church. In each of those messages when His church was not the measure of Christ, God says, “Repent”.

But the beautiful thing is, that we have opportunity. And once we have repented, we are called into His service.

Now let’s go back to Revelation 11:1. Did you notice it says to leave the court out. Don’t measure it. It is given to the Gentiles for 1260 years. There is a special message here regarding the Gentiles. Immediately we want to know, will the Gentiles ever be measured? Look at the message to the church of Thyatira. For within it is a message to the apostate OR mother Gentile church.

The apostate church/state system, who for 1260 years, treads under foot Jerusalem (God’s church), is represented by the Leopard-like beast of Revelation 13 and the Little Horn powers of Daniel 7 and Daniel 8, and is referred to in Revelation 11:2 as “the Gentiles”. She is also referred to as Jezebel or that queen of harlots. And God gives her a message.

God is telling her, you will come before the judgement seat of Christ. And in the same way as he gave messages to each of the seven churches representing His church on earth, He gives warning to her within His message to Thyatira. Repent. I know your works. In Revelation 2:21, He states, “I gave her space to repent.” He gave her 1260 years of time.

She is described again in Revelation 17. And God says, “I will shew thee the judgement of the the great whore….”

God is telling her, you also, will come before the judgement seat of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Historically, after the cross, the gospel went to the Jews and then to the world by the newly established church. Since then, Gentiles have had access to the gospel. They have had opportunity to receive the gospel or to reject it. Now, especially, since the 1260-year prophecy has been fulfilled, God’s church has given a special message of the Cleansing of the Sanctuary of Daniel 8 to the world in which the identity of the Man of Sin or apostate church is made known or revealed (1 Thessalonians 2:3,6,8). In this message of Daniel 8, the identity of Christ, their High Priest is also revealed. Unfortunately, some have already rejected salvation even after, like King Belshazzar in the Book of Daniel, they have seen the kingdom of God and the Son of God revealed in the fiery furnace in which the Christian martyrs were tried; they have seen the power of God to save his own and to change even the hardened heart of kings like Nebuchadnezzar. But like King Belshazzar, they have rejected the messages of the prophet Daniel and other prophets. In the scales of heaven, they are found wanting.

Daniel 5:27 Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.”

In our text, for 1260 years God in mercy did not measure them but only those professedly within His true church. The court of the sanctuary was left out. But there comes a day when they and the whole world will have made their decision for or against truth and God.

This message of judgment or measuring and the message to take the gospel to the world is re-iterated also in the first angel’s message of Revelation 14.

The second angel follows with this message of the falling away of the “man of sin” we talked about in 2 Thessalonians 2.

Both of these messages are a part of the Cleansing of the Sanctuary message. The first one regards the gospel cleansing (making right) of the individual to restore the heart to true worship of God and service for God. The second is a warning to the world regarding Babylon or the false church that had set itself up in opposition to the church of God during the reign of the Little Horn power of Daniel 8.

In addition to this, the Bible tells us in Revelation 10, in relation to time prophecies, that time is to be no more. In other words, there is not another prophecy based on dates and time. This is not to say there is no other prophecy to be fulfilled but we will not ever know the start or stop dates as we are given for the prophecies containing times (such as the 70 week or 490 year prophecy, or the 1260 year prophecy, or the 2300 day prophecy) in the book of Daniel.

This is a warning to us that the mystery of God is almost finished. The mystery of God is “Christ in you the hope of glory.” The 1260-year prophecy and the 2300-day prophecy (the longest time prophecies in the Bible” are already fulfilled and spiritual Israel can be no longer blind. The times of the Gentiles are come in and the gospel has almost gone to the world (Gentiles) once more.

This is the work of the Day of Atonement or reconciliation with God. Those who received the cleansing power of God would have God’s law or glory literally written on their heart and mind.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

The 2300-day message began with the kings of the Medes and the Persians using their two horns or powers to restore religious liberty and civil liberty to the Israelites as they are freed from Babylonian rule and giving them the ability to re-build the sanctuary of God. The last of these decrees by Artexerxes, and the fullest extent of liberty given was in the fall of 457 BC. The end of the 2300-year prophecy tells us of the Man of Sin receiving his deadly wound and of another restoration of freedom of both religious and civil liberty to the people of God with the end of papal oppression. Add 2300 years from 457 BC and you come to 1844 AD. This is 46 years after 1798 or the death of Leopard-like beast when the papacy lost its state power. It is significant because it parallels another 46-year period in the Bible related to the cleansing of the temple.

With the papal wound, 46 years gave the church of God time to study freely the prophecies and to discover this prophecy in Daniel 8. The Jews in Christ day expected Christ to come and free them from the Romans and set up an earthly kingdom, but Christ came and gave them what they needed more, the cleansing power of His blood and Word so they could reach the Gentile world with the gospel. So, forty-six years after the fall of the papacy, Christians studying Daniel 8 expected Jesus to come and set up His earthly kingdom. But as he did with Isaiah, He gave them what they needed more, the cleansing message of the sanctuary of their hearts and minds so they could reach the world with the gospel message.

To find out more about this go to Look up the “2300 day prophecy”. Learn how to compute “the cleansing of the sanctuary” dates beginning with 457 BC and going to 1844 AD. See what God did.

Once the Day of Atonement message was understood, it did go to the Gentile world.

Revelation 14:6-8 tells the story. It gives these very messages from the Day of Atonement prophecy of Daniel 8. These messages are proclaimed by the first two angels of Revelation 14, flying in the midst of heaven.

And within the message of the first angel of Revelation 14, there is a message of measuring or judgement.

Revelation 14:7 …”Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come:”…

What is the hour of His judgement? It is combined with the message of mercy or Gospel message to the whole world. This includes the Gentile world that does not know Jesus.

Soon, Jesus will symbolically step away from the throne of God to the threshold of the sanctuary (Ezekiel 9:3;10:4;9:4). The measuring or hour of judgment of God’s church will be over. At this time, and during the 7 last plagues, the light of the Glory of God will go one last time to the Gentile world as it has never gone before (Revelation 18:1; 16:8). The 2nd Angel’s Message of Revelation 14 will be re-iterated one last time for one last call to come out of Babylon (Revelation 18:4). After this, time will be over for them too. The 7th angel of Revelation 10 and 11 will sound. Judgment passes to the dead (Revelation 11:8). Never will there be another chance to win a soul to Jesus. The times of the Gentiles, the last period of probation to the world will be over.

I want to close with these very important messages of Daniel 8 and Revelation 14:6-12.

1. Will you heed the message of the Day of Atonement? Will you say as Isaiah did, when he saw Jesus, high and lifted up, “Woe is me, I am a man of unclean lips” understanding your need for Christ? And like Isaiah, will you accept the Gospel of Jesus as your personal Savior and allow Him as your High Priest to apply or sprinkle His cleansing blood in the temple seat of your heart and mind to cleanse from sin and write the law of God, the law of love, the character of God there. Will you allow Him to enlist you for His service to take the Gospel message, the message of reconciliation to the world and when He asks, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Will you say as Isaiah did, “Here am I, send me.”

2. God wants you to be aware of the Fall of the “Man of Sin” or Babylon or that Leopard-like beast of Revelation 13 because though he is wounded, he will play a part in the scenes at the close of time again. It is our job as Christians to warn the earth of the “Man of sin” or they will be deceived.

3. As a Christian, you are being measured. Will you accept the message of mercy and receive the seal of His blood and character to your heart and mind and grow to the perfect measure of Christ? Or will you reject His messengers, the prophets, those giving the world the gospel of Jesus and in so doing reject the testimony of Jesus Christ and receive the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:15-16) which is the 3rd Angels message of Revelation 14?
