DANIEL 8:21A HE-GOAT DRAGON

Updated: Dec 20, 2022

CHAPTER 21 A

During the following Bible study on Daniel 8 verse 21, we will discuss a third application of the Daniel 8 prophecy regarding the role of Satan, the spiritual He-goat, at the very close of time.

Daniel 8:21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-8/

I ask you here to review the Bible Studies I have provided on Daniel 8:5-8 regarding the He-goat. During those discussions we looked at the literal and spiritual significance of the He-goat.

First, we discovered that the He-goat literally represented the king of Grecia. We also found that the great horn between his eyes was literally the first king of Greece in Daniel’s post era or Alexander the Great’s father, King Phillip who had an agenda or vision to rule the world which he passed on to his son, Alexander the Great. The character of these kings was deceptive, violent, and angry in the methods they used to conquer the world. They effectively used Greek agreements regarding education, mixed marriages, mixing religion with paganism, to infiltrate, the kingdom of the Medes and Persians and then violent warlike measures to overtake the kingdom.

Secondly, and spiritually we have discovered that the He-goat also represents the spiritual king of Greece, which is another term for the king of the Gentile world, who is Satan himself. By his selfish acts and lies he polluted Adam’s vision of God and consequently tempted humanity to sin, stealing away human freedom to worship God in heart and mind without fear of death. We saw Satan hold the world captive to their sins and fears with methods of deception and violence as the people, even God’s denominated people at times, continued to choose to follow Satan in the path of disobedience to God. Through the centuries God sent his messengers to curb rebellion and to win the people back to Himself. But we have seen Satan’s response of wrath in persecuting and killing the prophet messengers. We watched as Satan, in his fury, attempted to destroy and tempt even the innocent Christ throughout His life on this earth. Finally, Satan’s efforts to deceive were successful in allying both God’s representative, the church power of the Jewish nation and the state of Rome who worked together to place the innocent Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross. This methodology was also evident in the persecution of Christians during the rule of the Little Horn power of Daniel 8.

But there is a final application. During this discourse I want to show you why the He-goat also represents Satan’s role at the very close of time.

First let me remind you that a He-goat is also a world leader. We will look at Isaiah 14 to understand more about Satan, his roots, and his plans to destroy our world.

Isaiah 14:9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Isaiah-Chapter-14/

The words “chief ones” from the Strong’s Concordance mean he-goats. He goats are a prophetic symbol for the rulers of the earth.

CHIEF ONES H6260

עַתּוּד ʻattûwd, at-tood'; or עַתֻּד ʻattud; from H6257; prepared, i.e. full grown; spoken only (in plural) of he-goats, or (figuratively) leaders of the people:—chief one, (he) goat, ram. https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/Lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=H6260&t=KJV

In scripture, the He-goat is also used to specifically represent Christ AND Satan as seen in the text below where the Lord’s goat represents Christ as our sin offering and the scape goat represents Satan who is finally held responsible for sin and is with sin separated from God and God’s people forever.

Leviticus 16:7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.

10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Leviticus-Chapter-16/

We also found that some stories regarding he-goats in the Bible involve substitution. This substitution is used in deception. One such story mentioned is when Jacob substituted a goat’s skin for his skin and goat’s meat for venison to deceive Isaac into thinking he was Esau, the first born, returned from the hunt to receive the blessing. Another is when Jacob’s sons substituted a goat’s blood for Joseph’s blood, dipping Joseph’s coat of many colors in it, to deceive Jacob into thinking Joseph had been killed by a wild beast. In these two cases, goats were used in the role of deception which is an act Satan oversees.

However, other applications in the Bible regarding He-goats can represent the role of Christ. Such as the Passover lamb, representing Christ, could be a lamb or a goat. A He -goat would be traded as the price for a field the same as Christ would pay the redemption price for the field of this world. And the considered inferior speckled he-goats or rams would mate with she goats to produce a flock superior to Laban’s just as Christ would come looking like “a root out of a dry ground, he hath no form or comeliness that we should desire Him” to become Father of a kingdom superior to any on earth. A Ram is a type of He-goat. Christ is the Lamb of God or Ram provided by God to die in our stead, similar to the story of Abraham and Isaac on Mt. Moriah.

Consequently, when we see the He-goat in Daniel 8 we must think about both Satan and Christ. We must look at the context of the story and decide which spiritual leader is applicable to the story plot. The He-goat in Daniel 8 has the character of Satan.

It is interesting that the He-goat, spiritually representing Satan as he desires to be king of the world has a horn between his eyes. Remember that in our study of Daniel 8 that this horn is described specifically as “notable”.

From the Strong’s Concordance the word “notable” means a striking appearance, revelation or compact or agreement or vision.

NOTEABLE H2380

חָזוּת châzûwth, khaw-zooth'; from H2372; a look; hence (figuratively) striking appearance, revelation, or (by implication) compact:—agreement, notable (one), vision. https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/Lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=H2380&t=KJV

Did you ever stop to contemplate that Satan has his own appearance or appearing or revelation (notable horn). He also has his own agreement he makes with anyone who will. His appearing or revelation will be deceptive in nature. He wants us to believe he is Christ, the first born or favored son of Israel. And his agreement is like unto a covenant with death or hell in that it involves obedience to the man of sin (the wages of sin is death) and disobedience to God’s commands (the way of life).

The Bible warns us of just such a scene in the end of time.

But first remember Satan came to Eve as if he were God and tempted her to make an agreement with him and eat of the forbidden tree. He came to Christ as an angel of light and even as God to tempt Christ to make an agreement with him to save himself by turning stones to bread; secondly, he tempted Christ to prove He was the Son of God by presuming upon God; and finally, he tempted Christ to save us by asking Him to worship him.

Matthew 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Matthew-Chapter-4/

Just as in the case of Christ on the mount of temptation, in the end of time, in a time of hunger, Satan again comes in the guise of an angel of light to the world, impersonating the man Jesus Christ with an agreement to make with man. He tempts the world to worship him to save themselves, to prove their loyalty to himself (the false or Antichrist), and to prevent their own hunger and death.

Revelation 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-13/

Satan, as the Dragon, is talking through the Lamb-like beast power. He is speaking through a power that looks like the Lamb of God, Christ. But he is deceiving, tempting, coercing the world to sin. Go back and see. Just as he, the Dragon, is the one who gave the Leopard-like beast his power, so he gives the Lamb-like beast power at the close of time.

Revelation 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-13/

Revelation 13:12 And he (the Lamb-like beast) exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-13/

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/2-Corinthians-Chapter-11/

Scripture warns us that Satan coming as an angel of light from heaven will cause bitter waters or in other words the words and messages coming from the churches (fountains of waters) will be bitter words. This bitterness will start a civil war so to speak.

Revelation 8:10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-8/

James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/James-Chapter-3/

God tells us in James 3 that Christian’s should have no part in cursing others. This is poisonous (bitter) to the body of believers and will cause it to die. That is just what Satan wants to happen.

James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell....

8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/James-Chapter-3/

Just as King Alexander the Great used the bitter animosities, and discontents of the Medo-Persians against each other to divide and conquer, so Satan, acting as though he were an angel of light, will use our own bitterness and lack of forgiveness and discontents and prejudices to turn us against each other. A house divided cannot stand. Some will lead the people in the use of force like iron to curb the discontentedness. Others will not resist and will be more like clay in the hands of their leaders. Some examples of this division are stated in the scriptures below.

Daniel 2:41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-2/

1 Corinthians 11:17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.

18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/1-Corinthians-Chapter-11/

Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.

28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Matthew-Chapter-12/

Mark 3:23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?

24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Mark-Chapter-3/

Luke 11:17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.

19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Luke-Chapter-11/

And just like King Philip and Alexander the Great, Satan, the king of the Gentile world, is out for control over the world and intends to win by a flood of persecution and war with God’s people. But though they may experience the furnace of affliction, those who have living faith and the seal of God in their foreheads he is unable to touch.

Luke 11:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Luke-Chapter-10/

Revelation 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-9/

Daniel 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Daniel-Chapter-3/

A fall is preceded by pride. In this case, Satan falls and has fallen because he wants to be God.

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/2-Thessalonians-Chapter-2/

Revelation 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.

8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.

9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.

10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-9/

Two other names for Satan in scripture are Abaddon and Apollyon. They both mean “destroying angel” or “destroyer.”

ABADDON G3

Ἀβαδδών Abaddṓn, ab-ad-dohn'; of Hebrew origin (H11); a destroying angel:—Abaddon.

https://www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/g3/kjv/tr/0-1/

APOLLYON G623

Ἀπολλύων Apollýōn, ap-ol-loo'-ohn; active participle of G622; a destroyer (i.e. Satan):—Apollyon.

https://www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/g623/kjv/tr/0-1/

Verse 6 of Jeremiah 4 could better be translated, the Gentile destroyer is on his way.

Jeremiah 4:6 Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

7 The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

8 For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

9 And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

10 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Jeremiah-Chapter-4/

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Isaiah-Chapter-14/

At the close of time, Satan’s most hated foe will be those who love and worship Jesus Christ and who keep God’s covenant agreement, the commandments of God.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-12/

Those who will fall for Satan’s deception will be those who are more interested in their own opinions or the opinions of man than the truth as it is in Jesus Christ. They will be fascinated by the power and signs and lying wonders Satan performs through his mediums the beast and the false prophets. The only way to tell the false from the true will be to go to the Word of God for truth.

2 Thessalonians 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/2-Thessalonians-Chapter-2/

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-19/

Revelation 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-13/

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Matthew-Chapter-7/

But Christ has prayed for us to keep us from evil and to sanctify us or make us holy, even in a world that hates us, by His truth. Where can we find truth? We find the truth in His Word.

John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/John-Chapter-17/

Those will not hear His Word, they believe a lie and scorn God’s Son, the Rock of Ages, Jesus Christ. By not hearing they make a covenant or agreement with death and hell that will not stand.

Isaiah 28:14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Isaiah-Chapter-28/

In contrast did you notice those who cling to the true foundation or Cornerstone, Jesus Christ, who obey His word, will not fall!

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Luke-Chapter-6/

Just like the He-goat of Daniel 8. Satan at the close of time will work deceptively, but also with anger.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-12/

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Revelation-Chapter-12/

Just like Greece was a very short-lived kingdom, so is Satan’s. We can take courage from these words because though the world, and especially God’s people will experience Satan’s wrath, it will be but for a short time.

CHAPTER SUMMARY

In summary we have looked at a third prophetic application of the He-goat as he represents Satan at the close of time. We have discussed how Satan has his own agreement he makes with anyone who will.

We have looked at Scripture to learn that Satan will tempt the whole world just

as in the case of Christ on the mount of temptation, in the end of time, in a time of hunger, Satan again comes in the guise of an angel of light to the world, impersonating the man Jesus Christ with an agreement to make with man. He tempts the world to worship him to save themselves, to prove their loyalty to himself (the false or Antichrist), and to prevent their own hunger and death.

Satan, as the Dragon, will talk through the medium of the Lamb-like beast power. He will speak through powers that look like the Lamb of God, Christ but are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Through miracles and signs and wonders he will be deceiving, tempting, coercing the world to sin.

Scripture also warns us that Satan will come as an angel of light from heaven will cause believers to curse fellow believers which is poisonous (bitter) to the body of believers and will cause churches to die.

And just like King Philip and Alexander the Great, Satan, the king of the Gentile world, is out for control over the world and intends to win by a flood of persecution and war with God’s people. But though they may experience the furnace of affliction, those who have living faith and the seal of God in their foreheads he is unable to touch.

Prophecy tells us Satan will fall. Any spiritual fall is preceded by pride. Satan has fallen repeatedly and will continue to fall because he wants to be God but he is only a created being.

Two other names for Satan in scripture are Abaddon and Apollyon. They both mean “destroying angel” or “destroyer.” Satan, the Gentile destroyer is on his way to destroy the world. But his first target is those who love and worship Jesus Christ and who keep God’s covenant agreement, the commandments of God.

Those who are more interested in their own opinions or the opinions of man and fascinated by signs and lying wonders more than the truth as it is in Jesus Christ will experience a fall for Satan’s deception. Those who will or not hear His Word and refuse to obey it will believe a lie and scorn God’s Son, the Rock of Ages, Jesus Christ. In this way they make a covenant or agreement with death and hell that will not stand. But Christ has prayed for us to keep us from evil and to sanctify us or make us holy, even in a world that hates us, by the truth found in His Word. Those who cling to the true foundation or Cornerstone, Jesus Christ, who hear and obey His word, will not fall!

Just like the He-goat of Daniel 8. Satan at the close of time will work deceptively, but also with anger. We can take comfort in the promise that just like Greece was a very short-lived kingdom, so is Satan’s.
